Advocare Premier OB/GYN of South Jersey offers women the most technologically advanced, minimally invasive surgical procedures to assist in the treatment of various gynecological conditions. For your comfort and convenience, some of these procedures may be performed in our office.
Sometimes biopsies are needed to determine if something is benign or cancerous. Biopsies can usually be taken from any outside surface, or from inside the uterus in the case of abnormal uterine bleeding, without the need for anesthesia or major surgery. We have the equipment to safely and quickly perform most biopsies in the office. If you have abnormal uterine bleeding, have a concerning bump or lesion on the inside or outside of your vagina, and would like to be evaluated for possible biopsy, please call our office for an appointment.
ESSURE® Permanent Birth Control
Women may now opt for permanent birth control without the need for abdominal incisions or general anesthesia. This incision-less, permanent procedure can be comfortably performed in our office, and is covered by most insurance plans.
The Mirena IUS (Intrauterine System) is an IUD with a progesterone capsule embedded in the IUD. In addition to being 99+% effective at preventing pregnancy, most women experience lighter and less painful periods. The Mirena IUS is effective for 5 years, and is covered by most insurance companies.
Skyla is an IUD that releases a low dose of hormones and is over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy for up to 3 years.
The Paraguard IUD, also known as the "copper IUD", is effective for 10 years. The IUD is placed in the uterus during an office visit, and it is 99+% effective at preventing pregnancy.
NEXPLANON is a small, soft, and flexible birth control implant—it’s just 4 centimeters in length. Your health care provider places it discreetly under the skin on the inside of your upper arm. This means it’s hidden from view. NEXPLANON provides up to 3 years of continuous pregnancy prevention.* That means no more daily, weekly, or monthly dosing routine.
Usually, the first step in management of an abnormal PAP smear is a colposcopy. A colposcope is a magnifying scope, similar to a microscope, that allows our physicians to look for abnormalities on the cervix. If needed, biopsies can be obtained during the colposcopy. The physicians at Advocare Premier OB/GYN of South Jersey have been performing colposcopy for many years, and are able to offer this quick and simple procedure in the comfort of the office.
daVinci® Minimally Invasive Surgery
Dr. Grossman was the first physician in South Jersey to perform a "robotic" hysterectomy using the new daVinci S HD Surgical System. daVinci minimally invasive surgical procedures are associated with less bleeding, less pain, shorter hospital stays, and a faster return to normal activities. The daVinci laparoscopic surgical system can be used to treat benign and malignant conditions of the uterus, including heavy bleeding, fibroids, pelvic pain, uterine prolapse, and gynecological cancers.
Fibroids, also known as "leiomyomas" or "leiomyomata", are common, benign growths of the uterine muscle. Often, fibroids cause no symptoms and can go undetected for many years. Sometimes, fibroids grow larger or are associated with heavy and painful periods that don't respond as well to hormonal treatments. Fibroids can cause bowel and bladder discomfort if they grow large and press on these pelvic structures, and sometimes fibroids can be a cause of recurrent miscarriage, infertility, and painful sexual intercourse. At Premier OB/GYN of South Jersey, we can discuss medical and surgical options for the management of problematic fibroids.
Our physicians are trained to counsel patients about genetic factors that may increase a patient's risk of developing breast, ovarian, colon, and other cancers and offer BRCA testing.
Heavy Menstrual Cycles
In many cases heavy periods are annoying and inconveniencing for women. In other cases heavy periods can be debilitating, interfere with work and social activities, and can lead to other medical problems such as anemia. The physicians at Premier Obstetrics and Gynecology of South Jersey, LLC can discuss your heavy menstrual cycles with you, evaluate the possible causes of heavy bleeding, and suggest options for treatment of your heavy bleeding. If you require minimally invasive surgical management of your heavy periods, our physicians can discuss procedures that can be completed in the comfort and privacy of our office.
Novasure® Endomentrial Ablation
NovaSure endometrial ablation is a quick, safe, and simple procedure to lighten or stop your periods, without the side effects of hormones or the risks of hysterectomy. No pills. No hormonal side effects.
HPV Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
HPV refers to a family of viruses, some strains of which can affect the cervix and eventually lead to cervical cancer. Other strains may cause genital warts, or warts in other parts of the body, but have no effect on the cervix. Current recommendations are for women over the age of 30 to have high risk HPV testing along with their annual PAP tests.
The currently available HPV vaccine, Gardasil, protects against four types of HPV virus, including two high risk strains that are responsible for most cervical cancer cases in our country. Gardasil is given as a series of three injections, and is available for girls and young women between the ages of 9 and 26. Please visit www.gardasil.com for more information about this vaccine.
We offer minimally invasive procedures when possible. Laparoscopy involves placing a skinny camera through a small (usually less than 1/2 inch) incision in the abdomen, and performing surgery through similarly small incisions. Laparoscopic surgery usually results in shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, and a quicker return to normal activities. Our office can schedule either "traditional" laparoscopic procedures, as well as the most advanced daVinci laparoscopic procedures. We offer surgical consultations and second opinions.
Our physicians keep up to date with the latest research about hormone replacement therapy (HRT), for treatment of menopausal symptoms. If hormonal medications are not right for you, we can discuss alternatives to traditional HRT, in order to help you with your hot flashes, night sweats, and to minimize or prevent bone loss.
MonaLisa Touch Procedure
For women that experience vaginal burning, itching or painful intercourse, MonaLisa Touch
is a minimally invasive procedure that uses C02 fractional laser technology to reverse vaginal atrophy and laxity, often caused by hormonal changes in pre- and post-menopausal women. The laser is inserted into the vagina and laser pulses stimulate new collagen production in the vaginal wall. Laser vaginal revitalization naturally increases blood flow and lubrication to help improve the natural function of the vagina.
Test A Pap test, often referred to as a Pap smear, involves obtaining a sample of cells from your cervix (the bottom-most part of your uterus), and looking for abnormal changes that may one day lead to cervical cancer. You should have your first Pap test within three years of having sexual intercourse, or at the age of 21, whichever comes first.
